Banff

An underrated travel destination, Banff is a spectacular place to visit all year round! With its glacier lakes, adventurous terrains, diverse wildlife, friendly locals, great shopping and dining, Banff cannot disappoint. Just a couple of hours away from Calgary, it’s an accessible destination for adrenaline junkies and families alike. Though I’m sure Banff is as breathtaking in the summer, the winter gives Banff its timeless and uniquely Canadian character. This bite-sized post reminds me that I’ll have to return sooner than later because there’s so much more Alberta has to offer!

Lake Louise

Perhaps the most famous lake in all of Canada, (the frozen) Lake Louis is a Christmas snow globe come to life. You can ski on the frozen lake, or take a leisurely walk to behold frozen glacier waterfalls, then maybe finish the round at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise ice bar. If you’re not staying at the Fairmont, there is a public parking lot right next to it, but be early because the parking lot is full by mid-morning!

Lake Moraine, I’ve heard, is just as stunning, if not more, but is unfortunately closed in the winter.

Hidden gems: Baker Creek by Basecamp (very affordable and spacious cabins; they offer natural soap made from the Canadian Rockies), The Trailhead Cafe.

Lake Louise & Sunshine Ski Resorts

Together with Mount Norquay, Lake Louise and Sunshine Village make up the Big3. As beginners, we’ve enjoyed the plenty of green and (easier) blue slopes at Lake Louis that offer the right mix of comfort and challenge.

Above the treeline and among the clouds, Sunshine Village is as stunning as it is frightening. When you think it can’t get any older, here it will. Some easy slopes but suited for more advanced skiers!

As for Mount Norquay, we’ll have to come back soon!

Book your ski pass here. I recommend picking up your equipment the day before skiing to skip the lines!

Calgary

What’s a Candian trip without hockey? Cheer the Calgary Flames at the Calgary Stampede among die-hard fans! Be sure to book the Fairmont Palliser to end your trip with a luxurious and relaxing stay!
